Why it matters
Water trapped in hoses and unprotected lines can freeze, expand, and damage plumbing.
Steps
- Disconnect, drain and store outdoor hoses before freezing weather.
- If provided, close the inside valve for the outdoor faucet and drain the outside section following the fixture instructions.
- Have sprinkler supply lines drained or winterized using the installer’s procedure. Do not improvise compressed-air work or add antifreeze.
- Recheck protection before winter travel.
How often should I disconnect outdoor hoses?
